New Tutorial: Adding VoIP to Your Flex Application

Adding VoIP to Your Flex ApplicationI have just posted a new tutorial that uses the Ribbit Phone API to add VoIP capabilities to a Flex application.

Here is the link: Adding VoIP to Your Flex Application

This tutorial builds a quick sample application that allows you to call a telephone from within your Flex application using your computer's microphone and speakers.

Slides from Adobe Tech Talk at UBC Vancouver

Thanks to everyone who attended the Adobe Tech Talk I held at the UBC Vancouver campus tonight.

I hope you got to see some of the really interesting things you can do with Adobe’s developer technologies like Flex and Adobe AIR.

To recap for those who couldn’t make it I talked about:

  • What is Web 2.0 / Rich Internet Applications (RIA)
  • Examples of Web 2.0 applications
  • Building a sample Flex application using Flex Builder
  • Converting a Flex application to an Adobe AIR application
  • Example Adobe AIR applications

Extended Facebook Permissions Allows for Smoother Photo Uploads

Over the past couple of months I have been working on an Adobe AIR application that connects to the Facebook API in order to easily upload photos.

Up until this point any time someone used my photo uploading tool they had to then sign into Facebook and approve the photos that were just uploaded via the API.

Facebook Working on Application Data Storage

Snarfed.org has a good article on a new addition to the Facebook API that will allow application developers to store some of their application data on the Facebook servers.

It seems to be in very early beta since it was quietly unveiled on the developer wiki with no hints or announcement from Facebook as of yet.

As this service becomes more mature this should go a long way in alleviating the bandwidth concerns that many Facebook application developers have been facing lately.

Saving CCK and Taxonomy Fields with Flex and Drupal Services

The Services module of Drupal lets you easily access the backend data of your Drupal-based web site or application. Flex can connect to these services via AMFPHP and gives you the ability to quickly build a nice front-end to your application that calls remote methods to get at the application data.

This post is aimed at developers already familiar with how to save nodes with Flex and Drupal services. If you don’t know how, but are interested, check out the tutorials, screencasts, and examples in the Drupal Services Handbook.
